Any time I read a Y member or participant comment that references a family having twins, it gets my attention. As parents of twin girls, my wife and I are part of a rather large but exclusive group that understands the unique challenges and joy associated with twins.
As such, when I read a note from a grateful Hill Family Center Y member complimenting Stay & Play associate Erin McHale for her attentiveness and caring personality when dealing with her young twins, it not only struck a chord but reminded me of what an incredible lifeline the Y is to so many parents (and not just parents of twins!) as they seek to attend to their kids while also taking care of themselves. It’s a very hard balancing act, and it’s one of the primary reasons that the Y exists. Kids are wonderful gifts, but even on their best days they present a complex set of challenges to parents who are constantly juggling often competing demands and needs. As one young mother of a two year old recently said to me, "I just don't know when there is time to do it all." I can relate!
Here’s an excerpt of the letter:
"My family and I have been members at the Hill Y for nearly a year. We have loved every day of our experience. I wanted to give a shout out to a Stay and Play associate named Erin. I have 4 ½ year old boy-girl twins. Stay and Play overall has been a most pleasant experience. I know my children are having fun, safe and looked after and that is invaluable as a parent. Erin has made our experience one that I am thankful for daily. Erin is always kind and considerate EVERY time I see her, even in the hallway. She always offers an observation about my children or a funny story about their time with her. I can tell she deeply cares about her job and the children she spends time with."
Thank you Erin, and thanks to all of our excellent Stay & Play associates! You are doing more than providing a safe and happy experience for children (though that in and of itself is very important), you are also helping parents have a sense of balance and contentment in the course of busy and stressful lives. I commend all of you and I appreciate you! Well done, Erin and all!
All the best,
John
