ONLINE MEMBER HANDBOOK
Welcome to the Y's online member handbook! This handbook documents all of the rules, policies and guidelines that are in place and upheld in our Y family centers for the health, safety and well-being of Y members, volunteers, guests, and associates.
By becoming a Y member and/or participating in Y programs, services and events, you are agreeing to follow all Y in Central Maryland rules, policies and guidelines posted in this online handbook.
The Y in Central Maryland may amend, alter, add, or change any policy with or without notice to ensure the safety and comfort of all. Annually, members will be notified to review the online member handbook for changes.
Thank you for your engagement in the Y community!
THE Y COMMUNITY
The Y is a charitable organization in central Maryland dedicated to developing the full potential of every individual through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
No matter where or how you encounter the Y, you will encounter a Y associate team and charitable mission focused on belonging, inclusion and supporting the Y community. Providing a caring network of people where everyone belongs and feels valued is essential to well-being. It fosters feelings of self-worth and connectivity that are healthy for each individual and for the community as a whole.
Y in Central Maryland membership is open to all regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, age, gender, gender identity, disability, economic status, and other diverse backgrounds.
We respect the dignity of all people and ask that our members, guests and associates treat each other with respect while in our Y facilities.
We reserve the right to revoke membership and/or program participation at our discretion for behavior which violates these principles.
Our long-standing core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility guide all we do. They are fundamental to what we expect of ourselves, what Y associates are trained to model and teach, and what we ask our members, guests, and participants to reflect as well.
The Y Campaign For a Better Us raises funds for our Open Doors Savings program to help offset program costs and make participation in the Y community as affordable and accessible as possible.
Throughout the year, you will be asked to consider contributing. Please give if you can. Ask for help if you need it.
Thank you in advance for your consideration and support.
Y Open Doors Savings is an opportunity to lower the cost of Y programs and services, including membership, camp, preschool, and before & after school enrichment by 25% - 75%. Open Door Savings applications are available at ymaryland.org/opendoors and at Y family centers.
The Y is dedicated to facilitating deep community engagement to help build strong communities. One of the ways we accomplish this is through our Community Leadership Boards made up of volunteers from each community we serve.
Community Leadership Board member involvement is fundamental to our ability to provide much-needed Open Doors Savings and support for those in Y communities who otherwise cannot afford Y services and programs. Community Leadership Board members plan various fundraising activities and undertake a variety of volunteer activities which advance the Y mission.
We invite your active participation. Those interested in serving on the Community Leadership Board for their community are encouraged to contact SuzanneGreen@ymaryland.org.

Safety, Policies and Procedures
Safety is our highest priority and we have taken many precautions to provide for your safety while you participate in activities at the Y. Because many of the activities at the Y involve physical exercise, it is strongly recommended that all adults, ages18 and over, consult their physician prior to beginning or continuing an exercise program or activity at the Y. Safety guidelines have been posted in several locations throughout Y family centers. Please adhere to these rules. Notify a Y associate if you have a safety concern and please report all incidents or injuries to the Y family center Leader on Duty.
In situations where talking directly to a Y associate is not conducive, you may also submit concerns or give feedback through Speakfully, an online platform where we manage identified safety concerns. If you have policy concerns, questions about safety, witnessed suspected child abuse, or there's something you see that just doesn't look right, you can report it to us via Speakfully in two ways:
- Visit ymaryland.speakfullynow.com
