As the temperature drops and we’ve entered a December unlike any other we’ve experienced, the level of need in our community has continued to escalate. It is with this in mind that I want to thank all those who supported and contributed to the Y during the national Giving Tuesday campaign, which we had never previously participated in given that it comes on the heels of our all-consuming Turkey Trot. With not a lot of effort, we were still able to raise approximately $20,000 last Tuesday (mostly in small donations) for the Y’s work with children, youth and families throughout central Maryland who depend on us for essential programs and experiences that keep them healthy, safe, enriched and connected to the larger community.
Now, as we turn our attention to the year-end holidays, we have launched the annual Y Giving Tree campaign. This campaign enables so many children to receive holiday gifts that most of our kids take for granted, including vitally-needed wish list items like winter jackets, socks, and warm sweaters. If you want to participate, just stop by a Y family center, choose an ornament with a gift request, purchase the gift and drop it back off at the center by 12/18. A new option this year is to simply use our Amazon Wish List to be delivered by 12/15 to the Y (choose the Y Training Center option for delivery), by clicking Y Giving Tree Amazon Gifts
Your gift to someone in need will mean so much!
Y associates, volunteers and members are some of the most kind-hearted people I’ve ever met. We all know that a sense of community isn’t an abstract notion. It’s the very thing, beyond our families, that sustains us and brings meaning to or lives.
All the best,
John
