“The time is always ripe to do right.”
-- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
On this cold and windy morning, one’s first inclination might be to pull the covers up over your head. However, on this important American holiday marking the life and legacy of Dr. King, I might suggest that you pull on a nice, warm sweater and find warmth in service to others.
Though as an association we formally celebrated the life and legacy of Dr. King at the Druid Hill Y a little over a week ago, his message and inspiration are relevant 365 days a year. Today, the occasion of his birthday, however, is certainly an important time to honor Dr. King by "doing right." If you have the time and the inclination, I urge you to consider some of the volunteer opportunities planned for today and this week:
Today
- Join the team at the Weinberg Y in Waverly and help write Valentine’s Day cards for our Active Duty vets (Call the Weinberg Y for details)
- Head over to the west side of the city and join the team at the Y in Druid Hill. We'll be accepting donations of toiletries for our inpatient vets and will be making 'Thank you for your service cards!'...Sign Up
Saturday
If Monday just doesn't work, consider volunteering on Saturday, January 26th and us help host the First LEGO League Robotics Qualifier...Sign up
Or, perhaps you might want to use today to decide that you’ll volunteer in some other way, like becoming a mentor to a young person, or reading to children at a Y preschool or after school site. Just follow this link: Search here or reach out to another great community organization and find out how you can help.
For those Y associates whose centers and programs are open today, thank you for doing right by enabling others to get healthier in every way.
Thank you all for your deep commitment to service and your community which is so clearly and continuously evidenced by the Y community in countless ways every single day.
All the best,
John
